Lectures on Computational Linguistics
The Lectures are a yearly initiative of the Italian Association of Computational Linguistics aimed at training in the field of Computational Linguistics, and are the result of a close collaboration with high-level training in the Universities, in particular with the Doctoral Schools, in order to guarantee a high level of quality in the educational offer.
Objectives
The goal of the Lectures is to offer a national “school” for the areas of Computational Linguistics and Natural Language Processing, aiming at representing a reference point on the whole national territory with an international academic offer.
The Lectures continue and develop the initiative promoted by the PhD School in Linguistic Sciences of the University of Pavia in collaboration with the Fondazione Bruno Kessler, and with the sponsorship of AILC, which started in 2016.
The Lectures are mainly addressed to Italian and foreign master’s degree and PhD students, offering them a highly qualified program of foundational courses in the various fields of Computational Linguistics. The courses, in English, are characterized by the aim of integrating the computer skills with relevant linguistic notions and, conversely, the linguistic knowledge with computational notions. The Lectures are usually included in the curriculum of the Doctoral School of the university hosting the initiative.
Scientific Committee
The Scientific Committee is the organizational body of the Lectures and it is assisted in its functions by a secretariat. It consists of five members:
- A member of the AILC board, in office for the board of directors (three years);
- A member representing the university organizing the Lectures in the current year, in office for one year; the following year she/he becomes a member representing the university which organized the Lectures in the previous year;
- A member representing the university which organized the Lectures in the previous year, in office for one year;
- Two AILC members with a high scientific profile, representing respectively humanistic and computational skills, in office for three years.
The Committee is responsible for the choice of topics and teachers, location and dates of the Lectures, the format of the courses, relations with the Doctoral School and the University hosting the Lectures, any participation fees. The Scientific Committee prepares the program proposal of the Lectures, taking into account the previous editions, and reports to the AILC Board which reserves the right to approve it.
